The epic expanse of these songs and sounds on this album are like a sonic ocean that both disorientates and also soothes. It’s catchy but has vast depth. The moments of shoegazey noise and chaos are balanced perfectly with melody and immersive beauty. Dive in and fall under this record's deep spell.”

'This is the fierce last stand of all I am'

“This is the fierce last stand of all I am.”

AloneKitty is the sonic project of Toronto-based artist Michelle K, crafting immersive, distortion-heavy shoegaze that transforms emotional chaos into shimmering walls of sound. Drawing from the lineage of My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Slowdive, and HUM, AloneKitty balances dissonance and melody in a way that feels both fragile and overwhelming — like heartbreak refracted through feedback.

Formed in the aftermath of a career upheaval, AloneKitty began as a solitary act of reflection and survival. The project’s 2025 self-titled debut — written, recorded, and produced independently — charted on the NACC 200 (#164) with minimal promotion, finding an audience through word of mouth and late-night radio.

Now evolved into a full band with drummer Stefan Loebus and bassist Michael Small, AloneKitty expanded its sound on the follow-up sad not sad (Mint400 Records), produced with Josh Korody, mixed by Luke Schindler (Broken Social Scene, Alexisonfire), and mastered by Simon Scott of Slowdive. The album entered the NACC 200 at #173 shortly after release, further establishing the project’s presence across North American college radio.

A third record is already underway, with Schindler returning to mix and Scott expected to master, continuing a collaborative thread that has become central to AloneKitty’s evolving sound.

“I don’t write pop songs,” Michelle says. “I write through a wall of sound and sadness and try to find beauty in it.”

For listeners drawn to shoegaze, noise pop, and emotional intensity, AloneKitty offers something immersive, uncompromising, and deeply personal — a place to disappear inside the noise.
